Political Correctness 'Gone Mad'

Snafu wonders why

just two complainants lead to a Parish Council being obliged to remove signs marking a park known as "Hitler's Walk"?

Ridiculous no?

Having said that I was a little shocked to see the brickwork on this vacant pub building in Ladywood, Vancouver Island.

Pub in Ladysmith

Just down the road from that building was the Canadian Royal Legion, and on its wall was a plaque commemorating all those from Ladysmith that gave their lives defeating the Nazis.

I would be against removing those swastickas and the Hitler sign. I guess the rationale for getting rid of them would be 'out of sight, out of mind' but in a world where ethnic cleansers like Saddam Hussien and Robert Mugabe still live and breathe, maybe we should be reminded of such things.

The swastika is, was and

The swastika is, was and always will be a Hindu symbol primarily (allowing for the native American's independent use).

Indeed wikipedia says this: "The word swastika is derived from the Sanskrit svastika, meaning any lucky or auspicious object..."

I do think Hitler's regime has forever coloured our (the West's) view of this symbol, but its use should not be considered Nazi all the time.
