Andy Murray Blog
Andy Murray has a blog. This is the guy who says that he wears a Paraguay top and states:
"I'll be supporting whoever is playing against England. I am a typical Scot."
Why not leave a comment on his blog and inform him that you'll be supporting anyone but him? Be polite though, we wouldn't want England to get the same reputation as Scotland.

Meanwhile, Franz Ferdinand star Nick McCarthy, fellow mealy-mouthed Scot (albeit a plastic one), had this to say to a German magazine.
"I get stick from all the lads in the band but I know how to defend myself.
"If it comes to the two teams facing each other, I'll be supporting Germany definitely.
"When you live in Scotland, you really go off England.
"In fact, thinking about it, after living in Scotland, England's a bit of a sh**hole really."
Don't buy his records, they're shit anyway.

Good for both of them. Why
Good for both of them. Why should they transfer their allegiance to the local rivals just because their team isn't in a tournament ? Doesn't work like that.
I love to see the London clubs fall flat on their faces in European tournaments, and I'm sure there wasn't much celebrating in the blue half of Liverpool or either half of Manchester when Liverpool won the champions league last year.
It's football, it's a daft game. That so much of your politics appears to revolve around it speaks volume.
One of my cousin's whose dad is Irish was set upon by English thugs during the last world cup for wearing a ROI shirt. I don't believe they're reflective of most England fans, myself included, they're reflective of the uglier side of football tribalisms.
Don't let your politics be dictated by that ugly tribal imperative.
Thank you for those wise
Thank you for those wise words Martyn.
They don't have to transfer the allegiance to England - if you read some of my earlier posts you would know that I don't expect them to. However, they should not expect any support from me, and they should not be upset by reciprocal animosity towards their nation's sportsmen and women.
The petty tribalism (and I agree that that is what it is, see English Civic Nationalism by me) has damaged Britain and led to the constitutional disadvantage of England.
Either we end this petty tribalism and return to a unitary state or we grant each nation equal constitutional status within our union of nations. Hopefully then the antagonism can stop.
It maybe worth considering that your advice would be better aimed at Scotland, and the likes of Andy Murray, where anti-English sentiment - in the form of sporting tribalism - is greater than the concomitant in England. Up until recently the overwhelming majority of English people would have supported the other nations come what may. Asymmetric devolution and the continuing chippiness of the Scots in particular is changing all that.

I do not agree with the
I do not agree with the scottish anti-English antics but being a Scot who has been studying in England for the last 2 years I feel the English often exaggerate it. I want England to do well in the World Cup not because I am patriotic towards england but because I think an English victory will be good for British Football. I agree with Martyn's comments and although I think the attacks are unforgivable this is a minority of football thugs who would take such actions and it must be remembered that violent acts such as this could occur anywhere in the world.
Why should Scots feel compelled to support their neighbour in a way that Spain won't feel compelled to support France. As Alan Hanson recently said "the English quite like us we hate you!"
The reason scots refuse to
The reason scots refuse to support England is because as soon as any big football event is about to start (and for about 3 months before hand) all the English can talk about is 1966. How predictable and boring.

Er, John. I think you'll find that as soon as any big football event is about to start (and for about 3 months before hand) all the Scots can talk about is 1966 - and how they perceive (wrongly) that the whole of England is supposedly going on about it. Now that really is predictable and boring.
We're not. We stopped going on about it by 1967.
The only reference I've heard - aside from the odd film flashback of Geoff Hurst's third goal is from that aggressive breed of media Scots who are based in England. People like Kelly Dagleish(lived in Southport, England all her life, before moving to London, England) and London based Taliban Tam, Nicky Campbell have expressed their loathing of England winning the world cup because as they see it, the country will 'go on about it' for another 40 years...
No proof, no analysis, no examples - just babble.
Eat it England! You've done
Eat it England! You've done my head in with your unsavoury nationalism for weeks - but, as usual, after a miserable performance you're out... and thank god for that.
Grow up mate - support your country by all means, but don't preach to me about who to support. Tosser.
Portugal!!!

Just read this - see why the English are universally despised?
